Estates - Caretaking service standard
You may live in a block which receives a service from a mobile
caretaking team. Our mobile teams of caretakers will visit your
block and carry out cleaning duties.
Some caretakers are based on an estate and provide caretaking
services to the estate; these caretakers may be resident on your
estate. All caretakers are required to wear uniform at all times
whilst at work; this is so they can be identified quickly and
easily as a member of Waltham Forest Housing staff.
For safety and security reasons please always ask to see proof
of identity before letting anyone into your home. All our staff
wear identity badges and will show you their badge to verify who
Caretakers carry out duties on your block or estate,
- Health and Safety checks.
- Cleaning refuse or bin chambers and where practical, clear
blocked chutes or arrange for a contractor to remove obstacles
- Replacing light bulbs and reporting lighting problems in
stairwells and communal areas.
- Mopping and sweeping lifts, lobbies, and all communal
- Removing litter and debris from grassed areas and shrubs.
Cleaning play areas and any other external areas within the block
- Removing graffiti and arranging for bulk refuse clearance from
designated areas and illegally dumped rubbish
Caretakers also make safe and report communal repairs, report
vandalism and anti-social behaviour, improperly disposed rubbish,
abandoned, untaxed vehicles or those which are illegally

We provide a bulk refuse pick up service for our estates.
Our caretaking team visits each estate once a week to collect
bulk items from our designated pickup points. If you have bulk
rubbish to collect or have any questions about this service please
