Who we are

A Standard training

The A standard is a list of characteristics and competencies developed by residents which they believed to be essential for a good scrutiny committee. The training programme was established to help members develop these competencies.Training

The A Standard is a resident defined quality mark to show:

  • You can think about the big picture whilst also recognising trends through the everyday details
  • Can see what works and what doesn’t – and gather evidence to prove it
  • Are positive and challenging – sharing your knowledge and supporting and learning from other residents
  • Can work to a timetable and deliver results
  • Like people and relate well to a wide range
  • Communicate well
  • Appreciate improvements and successes, however small
  • Are sensitive to those around you and have a good work/life balance
  • Want to keep your knowledge and skills up to date
  • Recognise you are accountable to other residents
  • Build positive relationships and are calm and constructive when conflict exists
  • Are a natural problem solver
  • Will defend principles that you know to be right and accept when mistakes happen
  • Can observe confidentiality
  • Keep a close eye on value for money, value planning and achieving your goals
  • Are open-minded, thoughtful and well-motivated
  • Have a strong tenant focus
  • Can take challenge as well as give it – constructively

Not everyone will be able to achieve every single aspect, but as a team, the Resident Scrutiny Committee (RSC) should be able to cover all of these competencies. Not every resident who is interested in being on the RSC will have achieved their own personal potential when they begin.

So what’s in it for you?

The kind of training you would get could be really useful if you are trying to improve your work prospects or perhaps change your career. You will become more skilled at dealing with people, analysing information, being an effective team member and much more. The key parts of the training can lead to recognised qualifications if you are keen to work at it.
