Sign up process
Once you have been offered a property by Waltham Forest Council,
you will have the chance to view it and if acceptable you will be
required to go through a sign up process.
You will be given a Residents' Handbook and asked to sign a
tenancy agreement. Since May 2009 all new council
tenants have been offered an introductory tenancy which lasted
for an initial period of 12 months.

Once you are happy and have accepted your offer of
accommodation, you’ll be given a date to attend a sign up
interview. We will tell you where the sign up will take place. The
sign up process takes at least an hour to complete and you will be
required to bring along relevant documentation, please click on the

- Proof of benefits (if applicable)
As part of the sign up process all new tenants are required to
have their photograph taken for tenancy identification. These
photographs are part of the documentation necessary for a
successful sign-up. If for whatever reason you are not happy to be
photographed than please be aware that the sign up may not take
place and the offer of accommodation may be subsequently

All new tenants will visited in their new home during the first
6 weeks after their tenancy commences, this has been put in place
to check on the progress of tenants and solve any initial queries
as early as possible.
