Home and estate refurbishments

Waltham Forest Housing spends £20 million a year on behalf of Waltham Forest Council to improve council homes and estates in the borough. The Council aims to bring all of its’ council properties up to the Waltham Forest Standard.

Waltham Forest Standard

  • All council properties should meet health and safety requirements particularly in regards to fire safety
  • Replace old roofs in poor condition
  • Replace 30 year old windows if in poor condition
  • Replace or repair the structure/fabric of the building if in poor condition. This includes walls, chimneys, soffits, lintels etc
  • Replace 40 year old doors if in poor condition
  • Replace 20 year old kitchens if in poor condition
  • All properties must have central heating and gas boilers must not be more than 15 years old
  • A property must have a valid electrical certificate that has been issued within the last five years
  • A property must have had external decoration carried out within the last 10 years
  • All estates should have adequate lighting
  • Access for disabled residents under the Equality Act
  • Communal areas, paving and slip walling are safe and sound
  • Garage and pram shed sites are to be safe and secure.
