Please note that demand for a transfer is very high with over 2000 tenants currently registered. The rules about who gets priority for a transfer are set out in the Council’s Allocations Policy.

We do not have a ‘waiting list’, but have a Housing Register for anyone wanting to apply for a transfer. The Housing Register ranks applicants in order based on their level of housing need which is assessed against the criteria set out in the Housing Allocation Policy:

The majority of homes are let to applicants that have ‘additional preference’

Less than one in ten homes are let to applicants in the 'reasonable preference' band

If you have ‘no preference’, you will not be housed or bid for advertised vacancies

Unless your housing need meets the criteria for 'additional preference' we advise that you to consider other housing options. Before you apply for a transfer, please take some time to read about the other options available to you:

If you are not currently a Council tenant and would like to apply to go on the housing register, please complete the housing application on Waltham Forest Council's website.
